11th Annual Scarecrow Contest
Scarecrows are on display throughout the month of October. Businesses on First Street and throughout Benicia will show off imaginatively created scarecrows. The theme is “Superheroes and Villains.” The public is invited to vote “People’s Choice” by voting online here. Voting ends Sunday, October 21st; 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of “People’s Choice” will be announced shortly thereafter. VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE
Spooky tales of the paranormal history of Benicia are revealed on this exciting, interactive, and fun Ghost Walk with paranormal experts.
Tours are third and fourth weekends in October at 8pm on Friday, October 19 & 26 and Saturday, October 20 & 27 at the Historic Railroad Depot, located at 90 First Street. Step into the shoes of a paranormal investigator and meet the ghosts of Benicia’s past. Good walking shoes and flashlight are recommended. Limited capacity on tours and lasts approximately 2 hours, depending on what entity the group encounters. Tours are $25 per person. Prepaid reservations are required by calling 707-745-9791.
Zombie Brew Crawl
On Saturday, October 13th from 1pm-5pm, Zombie Brew Crawl brings zombie-attired beer lovers to Downtown Benicia. A variety of craft beers will be poured inside participating downtown shops, providing adults with a fun-filled opportunity to get into the spirit of Halloween. Zombie costumes are encouraged, but not required to participate. Tickets are $25 advance for a single ticket and day of the event the price increases to $35. Participants must be age 21 and over. Check-in starts at 12:30pm at Benicia Main Street, 90 First Street. Sampling glass, map of tasting locations, and ID wristband will be provided per ticket holder at check-in. A limit of 300 tickets will be sold and can be purchased at Benicia Main Street, 90 First Street, or online.
The normally mild-mannered Southern Pacific Railroad Depot will mysteriously transform into a frightful depository of ghosts, goblins and spirits daring the public to pay a visit.
Admission is $3 and $2 for children age 5 and under. The hours of the Haunted Depot are Fridays, October 19 & 26 from 6-9pm; Saturdays, October 20 & 27 from 6-9pm; and Halloween from 6-9pm.
Halloween Costume Contest & Sidewalk Stroll
Benicia’s Halloween tradition continues on Saturday, October 27th at 10am with the annual Halloween Costume Contest and Sidewalk Stroll at the City Park, located at First and Military Streets. Kids of all ages enjoy the popular Halloween event. Local merchants on First Street get into the spirit offering candy and treats as kids and families stroll First Street trick-or-treating. At noon on the First Street Green, located at First and East B Streets, the public can enjoy the ever-popular Canine & Critter Costume Contest with prizes.
